Daily Job Search Advice from the CEO of AccountingCrossing
A. Harrison Barnes, Founder and CEO, AccountingCrossing
One of the greatest traps people fall into is believing they are entitled to something based on what they have done in the past or are capable of doing. An even greater trap is believing that you are entitled to something for nothing. Incredible as it may seem, most of the people in the working world I have seen throughout the years have a sense of entitlement. Rather than helping you, a sense of entitlement holds you back.
People who believe you are entitled to something–a parent, an employer, a union, a government, or someone else–are offering you a Faustian bargain.
Putnam Investments will cut 47 jobs, or nearly 2 percent of their work force, and merge six of the company's stock mutual funds into larger funds, as part of a broad restructuring under its new chief executive.
Robert Reynolds, a former Fidelity executive who defected for Putnam in June, told the Associated Press he will streamline fund management, and reorganize bonuses for money managers and financial analysts, to more closely align pay with performance.
The job cuts involve 12 portfolio managers and 35 staff positions, out of a total work force of 2,500. Most of the cuts are at Putnam's Boston headquarters, with some coming in London and Tokyo.

About EmploymentCrossing
If you're like the typical job seeker, you probably assume that any major jobs site is as good as any other on the web. And if you had to choose, you'd pick the largest or most popular site.
But not all sites are created equal, and once you understand how these sites make their money, you'll some job sites don't have your best interests at heart.
This video explains how EmploymentCrossing.com is different from those sites, and why we're the best bet for finding the job that's best for you and your career.
Careers in the financial industry have endless possibilities. In order to select a path for your career, it is important to know what this field involves. The field of finance, in essence, relates to time, money, and risk and how these are all connected. Banks are central to all funding and credit; however, private equity, mutual funds, hedge funds, and other organizations are also important in the field of finance.
If you'd like to get hired for an entry level accounting job, there are a few things you are going to need to do first. For example, you're probably going to need to get a bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a related field; in addition, you may need to get certification as a certified public accountant or in other areas such as in financial management for certain accounting and finance jobs.
